Is Anderson Silva the Mayweather of mma?

Anderson Silva and Floyde Mayweather are the kings of their sport and seem to run through all the competition in their path. Although their are others that contend with their p4p title (GSP and Pacquiao), they are still widely considered the best.

One thing in particular that makes them resemble one another is the fact that they seem to be content at fighting guys that are their own size rather than proving to the fans how good they actually are by moving up in weight and challenging themselves with tougher competition. The world was denied seeing the two greatest boxers of our time square off when Mayweather refused to fight Pacquiao earlier this year. The same seems to be happening in mma as the potential super fight of GSP vs Silva seems to be getting farther and farther away from happening. Anderson Silva isn't the one to blame for this fight not happening but if he thinks he is the best, he should be petitioning for this fight to happen.

Anderson has moved up in weight twice in the UFC but both fights were rather safe for the middleweight champion. It is understandable that he didn't want to fight his teammate Machida but he is also refusing to move up to fight Jon Jones who looks to be one of the only people even at light-heavyweight with a skill-set that could dethrone the current p4p king.

Floyde Mayweather Jr. has fought in 5 different weight classes in his career. He started out at Super Featherweight (130 lbs) and now fights at Welterweight (140 lbs) while fighting once at Super Welterweight (154 lbs). His one fight at 154 was against future HOF Oscar De La Hoya where he won by (a controversial) split decision. Moving back down to Welterweight, Mayweather has lately been letting smaller fighters move up to fight him.

There are many potential big fights if either of these men move up. Anderson could fight Jon Jones, Shogun, or Rampage whereas Mayweather could fight Sergio Martinez, Paul Williams, or Kelly Pavlik. There is a lot of potential superfights for both of these guys and the only thing standing in the way of making them happen is themselves.
